We are sad to report that, earlier this week the Sony DADC warehouse in North London was burnt to the ground during the London riots in a massive act of arson. Apart from stocking various Sony electronic products it also housed all the stock of one of the leading UK independent record label distributors, PIAS. PIAS are Buzzin’ Fly and Strange Feeling’s distributors.
What this means is that virtually every unsold piece of vinyl and CD of both Buzzin’ Fly and Strange Feeling Recordings have been lost. It has wiped out eight years of the labels histories in one fell swoop. Yes, we live in a digital age and all the records can fortunately still be downloaded, but it doesn’t get away from the fact that for collectors and lovers of artwork and freshly pressed vinyl and mint CDs a mindless act of vandalism has taken place.
The Buzzin’ Fly online shop has some limited stock unaffected by the fire, but when those items are sold it is likely that many of them will never be repressed. Music revelers might be able to get their hands on a genuine rarity or simply fill a space in their collections while stocks last.
Label representatives say, “You will be helping the label in a big way as we currently have no income coming in from regular shop sales and distribution of packaged product as we having nothing left to distribute at the moment. Insurance claims and decisions over what to re-make will take time. If you just want to buy a few downloads, that is cool too.” Revelers can purchase remaining CDs, vinyls, T-shirts, posters, badges, hoodies and bags by visiting the Buzzin’ Fly Online Shop, see link: http://www.buzzinfly.com/shop/ also see http://www.pias.com/pias/pias-and-aim-establish-fund-for-label/ for more information about the PIAS Fund For Labels.
