Review: Jonathan Meyer feat. Thandy – Baleka

Artist: Jonathan Meyer feat. Thandy
Title: Baleka
Label: Super Soul Music
Genre: Deep/Afro House

Jonathan’s refined dexterity in drum sequencing is perfectly accentuated on this release. Its a refined balance between groove and dance floor energy. This time around he features South African songstress Thandy.

She makes her debut on Super Soul Music in refined style and zest. Her voice prowess adds unparalled energy reminiscent of Margaret Singana’s heydays; making the EP a perfect tribute by Jonathan Meyer to South Africa a country so in love with House music.

The “Club Mix” has great energy with some deft touches of Electro House. The synth melodies and crescendos make this mix a perfect dancefloor blazer.

The “Aphromix” extends Jonathan’s classic touch with his live drums addining just the right amount of energy, groove and the percussive rhythm onto the song. He layers the marimba’s with some aggressive Hammond notes to bring out rhythm of entire song.

The “Main Mix” starts with an aggressive but solid groove with the sythns being the main element keeping with the high energy nature of the song. Thandy’s voice again add more energy and after the central break a wonderful piano guides the song nicely until the end.

“Assassin Mix” is definitively the baddest and sickest, some real acid synths right there! The entire track is somewhat minimal but a lively synth, crashing hi hats and drum mix crescendo until the end.
