The Houseonmag team recently picked up a copy of Kid Fonques 5th mixed album “2 sides of the beat” and having heard Kid Fonque play Live we just knew this was going to be a banger, we did cringe however when we saw “Mujava” on the track list but it was all justified as soon as we pressed play.
We found it hard to pigeon hole Kid fonque into one genre as he’s album takes you into a musical journey comprising of Funk, Deep House, Acid Jazz, Lo-fi, Lounge, Deep tech and Chill out just to name a few of the genres featured on this album. The beautiful part is how he seamlessly combines these genres into something we have never heard before coming out of South Africa.
2 Sides Of The Beat is a concept album with the 1st disc named “For Your Feet” which features tracks from the likes of Mosca, Maddslinky, AtJazz and our personal favorite Crazy P (remixing Mujava’s massive “Township Funk”). The 1st disc will definitely have your feet tapping and your head bobbing especially when tracks like Jazztroniks’ Samuraui kick in. The 2nd Disc “For Your Head” is lounge lo-fi electric music heaven for a lack of a better word and we especially loved the way he mixed tracks between these very tricky genres.
Overall Kid Fonques “2 Sides Of The Beat” is a must have album in any music lovers collection. The Houseonmag team would also like to salute Kid Fonque for sticking to he’s guns and not giving in to the pressures of the music industry – quality all the way.
